And then there are the drugs…

As the floods squeezed out the One percent towards their eventual homes in the Cosmos, a plant called hiyawhatsup overtook much of the arable land.   Not only did it create an excellent high when ingested, in small amounts, it gave a boost to the nuclear engines which powered the Cosmic asteroids.   Hiyawhatsup became the unofficial currency of the Cosmos. Imagine the horror that rippled through the Cosmos when a small group of religious fanatics took over the great majority of Hiyawhtsup fields and replaced the plant with corn, wheat and sorghum. Almost unanimously, the denizens of the Cosmos demanded the fields be reclaimed.  Unfortunately, they themselves had no stomach for actually reclaiming the fields on their own.  For this they needed surrogates, or a private army or a massive influx of drones. Naturally, they attacked this problem the way they always did, by forming Think Tanks and hiring lobbyists to influence the politicians actively participating in the Galactic […]

Valhalla

Valhalla circles the moon in an eccentric orbit.  Twice a year, asteroid owners gather on the shores of its shallow pools to indulge in various vices and convocations.   Valhalla serves as an informal seat of government for The Cosmos.   A self selected council is led by Buster Kapusta, a well known spook married to a grand dame of one of the biggest banking families ever to exist, the Ashdashes. Their various and sundry connections take them into the most obscure social arteries flowing through the Cosmos.  Not surprisingly, half the public buildings on the moon are named for them.

Earth’s Satellite

The moon at this time had become the halfway point between the Earth and the Cosmos.  All those aspiring to live out their lives on asteroids of their own more than likely find their way there.  The domed city of Toro had originally begun as a small outpost on the Sea of Tranquility for the brave souls wishing to push on into what then was uncharted space.  Hardy pioneers turned profit from interplanetary mining missions into huge, unimaginably architectures buildings freed from the demands of gravity.  Toro grew and then came sister city Lunatica and the underground marvel, Persephone. Wealthy patrons founded museums and entrepreneurs opened posh restaurants.  Trading floors opened in the  financial district known as Torobulla.  Here began the funding of asteroids which pushed the lucky few into the fledgling Cosmos.   The handful of founders became thousands, then millions, then hundreds of millions.   Everyone on Earth aspired to travel to the Moon. Lunatica sprung up as […]

It Begins with a Thought

It started with a thought.   In all earnestness, not a simple thought; rather, a complicated thought build on history and precedent.   Into this thought went hours of obsession, concentration, imagination.   It grew into a theory, a philosophy, a call to action. She stayed up late as the thought crystallized into words typed on a screen.   At this point, she was still an ordinary being, not the queen she would become.   She was but a child of the Cosmos wishing to win back the earth for those deserving to return.   The question had always been how to spur the reclamation. Like all great ideas, this one congealed in the gentle pounding of a warm shower.  Not an earthly shower, mind you, but a gravity defying box of water as commonly used in space.  She rinsed her hair and floated out into the spherical hallway, carrying the thought with the care one would take while handling an […]
